Sustainability

We farm inside one of Earth's oldest ecosystems. Carefully.

Operating inside Royal Belum-Temmengor, one of the oldest rainforests on the planet, is a privilege that carries real responsibility. Every decision we make — from feed sourcing to waste management — is measured against the question: does this protect the ecosystem we depend on?

Lake & Ecosystem

The lake is not our resource. It is our responsibility.

Temmengor Lake sits within Royal Belum State Park, a protected area spanning 117,000 hectares of primary rainforest. This forest is estimated to be 130 million years old — older than the Amazon and the Congo. It is home to extraordinary biodiversity, including over 300 bird species and 100 freshwater fish species.

We operate within this ecosystem, not above it. Our farming practices are designed to minimise impact and maintain the ecological balance that makes Temmengor one of the most pristine freshwater environments in Southeast Asia.

  • No land clearing for farm expansion.

All cage farming takes place on the existing lake surface. We do not clear forest or modify shoreline for operational expansion.

  • Continuous water quality monitoring.

Water parameters are tested regularly to ensure that farming activity does not degrade lake water quality beyond acceptable thresholds.

  • Responsible feed management — no prohibited substances.

Feed is sourced from ASC-certified suppliers and managed to minimise waste and nutrient loading in the lake.

  • Compliance with ASC environmental standards.

Our environmental practices are independently audited as part of our continuous ASC certification since 2013.

Traceability

Every fish. Every step. Documented.

Every lot of Trapia tilapia carries a unique lot number that connects the product to its cage of origin on Temmengor Lake, through harvest, lab testing, HACCP-controlled processing, cold storage, and export documentation. At every point in the chain, the product is fully documented — giving buyers complete confidence in what they are sourcing.

One lot number connects cage to container

For EU, US, and Korean buyers, full chain-of-custody documentation is not optional — it is a regulatory and commercial requirement. Trapia’s traceability system ensures that every product can be traced from the specific cage on Temmengor Lake through harvest, testing, processing, storage, and export, with documentation at every step. This gives importers, retailers, and food service operators the confidence they need to list our products.

If a buyer ever needs to trace a product back to its origin, we can take them from the product in their hands all the way to the specific cage on Temmengor Lake — with documentation at every step
